Narendra Modi’s 45th Mann Ki Baat: 10 things you need to know

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the nation through the 45th episode of his radio show

PM Modi started his address with a hearty congratulation to the Indian men’s cricket team’s win over Afghanistan and said that sports are an excellent route to unite society and to showcase the talents and skills of youth.

Here are the 10 things you need to know about his address.

1. On Yoga Day

Speaking about the International Yoga Day, PM Modi said that it was a matter of “great pride” for 125 crore people to witness members of the armed forces perform yoga across land, sea and sky.

2. First yoga day celebration in Saudi Arabia.

PM Modi specially mentioned the yoga day celebration in Saudi Arabia. In the first-ever community yoga practice, women’s demonstrated various Aasans of yoga.

3. Doctors Are Our Friends

We give the status of God to mothers, as mothers give birth. But doctors give rebirth. The role of doctors is not limited to giving medicines. They are like our friends. They not only cure but heal. Indian doctors have made their mark internationally, with their skills and capabilities

4.Jallianwala Bagh Tragedy

Recalling the horrific Jallianwala Bagh incident in 1909, PM Modi said that 2019 marked 100 years of the incident that embarrassed all of humanity.

5.GST is an expression of cooperative federalism, says Narendra Modi.

GST will be one biggest tax reform in the world. Stating this he said, Citizens have played a vital role in ushering in the big tax reform.

6.Syama Prasad Mukherjee’s death anniversary

Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee’s death anniversary was on June 23. Three sectors were very dear to him – education, administration and parliamentary affairs. Do you know he was the youngest vice-chancellor of Calcutta University? He was only 33 when he became the vice-chancellor of the university. On his invitation, Rabindra Nath Tagore delivered the convocation speech in Bangla in 1937. It was the first time a speech was delivered in Bangla under British rule.

7. Remembering the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev.

Guru Nanak Dev taught us to end caste-based discrimination and to embrace the entire humanity. He has said that the service of the poor and the needy is the service of God. Guru Nanak Dev started the system of langar where people of all religion, caste, creed and community can come and eat together.

8. Gave praise to the great saint Kabir Das.

When “I” was then Hari was not, Now Hari “is” and “I” am not…all the darkness mitigated, when I saw the light within.

Saint Kabir Das through his Dohas laid emphasis on equality, peace and brotherhood. We find these ideas in his creations and they are still inspiring.

9. PM on his travel experience.

Over the last few days, I have been interacting with beneficiaries of various initiatives of the Government of India. I learnt a lot from their experiences and life journeys.

10. On Sports

Sport is a great medium for the integration of society. It is also a great medium to find out the talent in the youths. I congratulate India and Afghanistan cricket teams. I hope they will keep playing the game against each other with sportsman spirit.
