In his complaint to the police, Jageshwar Yadav had said, Renuka was in an abusive relationship with her husband harassing her over the past four years of their marriage.

“Pintu is a cloth vendor and the family lived decently, but he would constantly beat Renuka up asking her to get money from her parents to buy him a Bullet (motorcycle),’’ said an official from Navghar police station. “The two hailed from Uttar Pradesh. Pintu lived in rented accommodation at Gavdevi chawl in Bhayander, but he didn’t bring his wife along until six months ago. The two would constantly fight over it.”

“Even after Renuka moved with Pintu, the couple continued to fight. He would reiterate his demand and often beat her up asking her to get money from her father so that he could purchase a bike,” said Assistant Police Inspector Tikaram Thatkar of Navghar police station, who is investigating the case. Thatkar said that on the day she committed suicide, the couple had a fight. She left her home in a fit of rage and headed to the station.
